Obituary of Stephen Elijah Brown
Remembering Stephen “Eddie” Brown 1948 – 2022
Those who touch our lives, stay in our hearts forever. Stephen Elijah Brown was husband, father, son, brother, friend, caregiver, co-worker, uncle – and to many just like Family. Affectionately known as Eddie or Uncle Eddie, Stephen Brown left this world quietly, but his tremendous persona is impossible to sum up in a few sentences. As a matter of fact, the truth is memories are but glimpses and moments and no singular memory or even the collection of memories from a single person will ever adequately define an individual.
Stephen Brown was son to Justin Urban Brown and Catherine Elizabeth Brown – both deceased and the youngest of the Brown’s twelve children. He was a devoted husband to his wife of 53 years – Willie Mae Brown and a strong and supportive Dad to Denese (aka Junie) and Ademola (aka) Kareem. Stephen was a loving and involved grandfather to Elijah and Saedah and friend to many. He was a mischievous but jovial little brother to 11 other siblings. Uncle Eddie was the favorite uncle to many of his nieces and nephews. He was funny but enigmatic. He was a treasure trove of information gathered from his passion for reading and learning. He LOVED history and current events. He was strong in his belief that we can learn valuable lessons from our ancestors and thus took on the role as the Brown’s family historian. He often shared with family lessons of strength, resilience, sacrifice, love, and perseverance through stories of our ancestors.
Stephen was a dedicated employee of the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) for approximately 30 years where he worked as an Electronic Engineer in the Signals and Radio department. There he made many friends and worked well with his colleagues.
His death is merely a transition from an earthly presence as we each continue to keep his memory within us. Eddie will be sadly missed. Death is not the end! It is merely a step we all must take someday. Our family is still feeling the pain from his passing but also the joy of knowing him.
Stephen Brown lived a full life and will always be remembered fondly.
“Even the mightiest eagle comes down to the treetops to rest”. (African Proverb)
Rest in Peace, Daddy.
