The Lord giveth and The Lord taketh away

Blessed be the name of The Lord

I will go to him but he will not come back to me

God does all things well

I am loved and my Basil is well loved by family, friends and colleagues.

He possessed a depth of knowledge and understanding about so many subjects.There was no subject he could not discuss from movies, to politics, and academia.

He was a man of trust, integrity, articulate with whip lash intelligence, creative—many admired the design of his gardens and then there was his clothes! He exuded confidence and was not afraid to wear colours and prints that the average man would not be caught dead wearing. An optimist, kind, considerate, a fighter, and truthful—perhaps a trait that many people find daunting. This was my husband’s character.

Basil’s friends and acquaintances date back to middle school and from when he first started his career as an analyst. Until the day he died, he remained a faithful friend and confidant to many. He was a great influence on his two nieces who adored him and have the utmost respect and love towards him. They were the apple of their uncle’s eyes. Birthdays and Christmas he would source the perfect gifts driving all over the city even to the US to ensure happy faces and relishing the joy that brightened their faces.

There were times during his sickness I would ask him if he was ok and his response was usually “yes” or just “an annoying pain.” As the disease progressed, I had countless bathroom cries and sometimes my tears just fell on him because I could not make it to the bathroom. Afterall, I am supposed to be strong for him. My Basil never complained. What he did was instruct his doctors not to tell me everything although he tried his best to get me to come to terms with the fact that his life expectancy was short. He did not want me to worry and fret.

In his speech at our wedding, he said, “I promise to love you and I will love you with my dying breath.” Days before his passing he lost his motor skills and his ability to speak. Hours before his death he fought to speak. At 11:00PM we thought he was passing and his sister and I started a prayer chain. We had called the nurse to the room and he looked at Basil and commented on his tenacious spirit to hang on. At 2:50 AM  Saturday, May 15^th , 2021, the Lord called his son to eternal rest. No more pain, toil, and suffering.

“My people are destroyed from a lack of knowledge” Hosea 4:6. I suppose people who don’t believe in God are sometimes angry at the passing of their loved ones. I am not angry but broken hearted that my love is no longer physically with me I must admit God had prepared me by eliminating all fear as fear is crippling. In time I will heal. Basil will forever live in my heart and someday when it is my turn to pass, he will be there. The Lord does all things well.

Family and friends your love and support has been both touching and humbling. Thank you.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the foundation that will be set up for underprivileged children who are going onto post secondary studies but have financial challenges. The Benjamin Maxwell Foundation will annually award a monetary gift.

PANDEMIC CAPACITY UPDATE: Subject to change at as per government mandate

INDOOR CEREMONIES: 10 person maximum capacity permitted in the entire funeral home

CHAPEL CAPACITY: 10 person maximum

OUTDOOR CEREMONIES: 10 person maximum at the cemetery.

Please note: children and babies also account for numbers.

Staff will continuously be monitoring capacity numbers. Once we have reached capacity, guests will be asked to remain outside, as there is NO gathering in the funeral centre at anytime.
