I worked with Myrtle for many years. She was my coworker, friend and mentor. Her vibrant life was an inspiration too all who knew her and I will forever remember her smile and little dance. It seemed that nothing could stop her and when she retired she kept herself busy and lived a full life. She will be missed but never forgotten. I was so privileged to know her and be in her presence. Rest in peace...and shine in the presence of the Lord. Love you forever. Helen

My Dear Aunt Myrtle
The last words I remember you saying is “The noisy one is here”.
As a child growing up and visiting your home to play with my cousins, I remember aunt Miriam saying “stop the noise, Myrtle a study”. I didn’t understand because you had a job, so why are you still going to school and studying. I now understand that you were always aiming for higher heights, you never stopped learning; only the best was good enough for you.
You were all about education. You encouraged me to read and study, so that I could attend UWI and get a degree and a good job. You said that I should be prim and proper, not to be so loud; I tried.
You encouraged me to save and invest my money. To pay it back to family, friends and the community. You were all about helping and giving.
I have learned a lot from you. I will miss your lecturing (smile)
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow you straight to heaven.
Walk good, till we meet again.
Love you.

TRIBUTE FOR MYRTLE FROM JOE
Remembering Myrtle, affectionately called Myrks as a child growing up I always took on to her mainly because of her quietness, uniqueness, cuteness, and her beauty. She was living on the top of the hill and I at the bottom. Whenever she came by my house, on her way back home I would give her jockyride across my neck to her house. Unfortunately, she migrated to Kingston with her mom and her sister Miriam. So the family bond got a little strained. Fortunately, after some years, I joined the family in Kingston and the family love continued until she migrated to Canada where we kept in touch and we continued to keep in touch on a regular basis. When she was planning her vacation to visit Jamaica, she called me and said “Joe, I am coming to Jamaica but I don’t know where I am going to stay”. My answer to that was “my doors are wide open to accommodate you, so no problem!”. From then, every year when she visited Jamaica, my home was always the headquarters for Myrks and her husband. Myrks was so kind and loving that whenever she came to Jamaica she had to send barrels with food, clothing, etc. for everyone. When she cleared the barrels from the wharf, she made parcels for various family members and friends, and not to mention she would also include cash with the packages. She also carried gift items for schools where she was invited to give motivational talks. Myrtle was always encouraging people to move on and to aim for the top; sky is the limit and there is always light at the end of the tunnel. Whenever she counseled the young people, they didn’t want to hear and so they didn’t listen, and they always had an attitude. She would say to them “don’t forget to remember that whatever you are planning to do, you must always put God first”. Her Christian beliefs I quote from Matthew 25; there are some verses that were outstanding to her like “I was naked and you gave me no clothes, I was hungry and you gave me no food”, and that’s why she was always giving. When she realized that her time was near, she said to her cousin Donna, that she must always send something for her cousins in Jamaica. Myrks, we miss you, we love you. But Jesus loves you best. Sleep on. Love always from your best cousin Joe.

With deepest sympathy in the loss of my dear friend Myrtle from Viviene
Those we love are never really lost to us. We feel them in so many special ways. Through friends they always cared about and dreams they left behind in beauty, that they added to our days. In words of wisdom we still carry with us and memories that never will be gone. Having a friend like Myrtle has added much joy to life. One would never know what a joy she had been having her around. Our friendship lasted for over fiftty years and although she is no longer with us, our love still lives on. Despite being miles away from each other we always kept abreast with what is happening back home, not forgetting the wonderful time we had in school and the numerous committees and boards we served on. Myrtle is a true Christian, always giving God thanks for everything. No matter how things are difficult she is always quick to tell you, No, don’t use those words (if it is not in the positive). Pray and always give thanks.
She never came to Jamaica, and not make a presentation to children with special needs. Her last presentation was to the National Children’s Home that was badly damaged. She has brought Joy to everyone with whom she has come in contact. I have lost someone who held a special place in my heart and my life. Although no one else can truly share the sadness I feel now, may memories of Myrtle bring us peace and reassure us that love endures forever.
May her soul rest in peace and light perpetual shine upon her. Until we meet again, God bless you.

My dear Myrtle, my dear friend for over 45 years, thank you for giving me the opportunity to learn what is true friendship. I miss your smile – but it is forever etched on my heart.
Our friendship started on the first day we met at Excelsior Community College – warmth and sincerity bonded us then, and over the years we both continued to share a love for, and enjoyment of, lifelong learning. Although at times we lived on different continents – the flame of love burned brightly, our love for each other, our love for family, and our love for Father-Mother God.
Your calm demeanor, your laughter, your faith in God, your confidence, your desire to uplift and help others, your many gifts, won’t be forgotten. Maybe I didn’t get a chance to say goodbye because you would want me to just continue your labour of love, until…. and so I lovingly release you to your Saviour.
You left me with many cards, many words of wisdom, as you also shared with family, friends and even strangers, but these words from one of your gift cards will now be my mantra, as it was yours:
“Do good ….and just keep doing it! Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men”
Sleep on my friend, may your soul rest in the Peace of God
.
I miss you and will always love you.
To sisters Miriam, Lynne and all other loving family members
You had a treasure, a gem in your midst, who blessed many lives
May God comfort you in your time of grieving

Aunt Myrtle, 25 yrs ago you said I have to come to a church that you were attending on Friday nights with Pastor Pat. You raved weekly of this preaching. You said I have to hear it. If only I could do the commute you said. You knew I was away from the Lord.
A year later I came to see and never left. 24 yrs later. And this is what I am most grateful for. Never to wander away from God again.
And as the years went by all our family came and made KCC our church of worship.
That is the power of God that He would use you to bring your family under the fold. You loved connecting with your family after each church services.
I too got so many of her scripture card. She would keep buying them to hand out and when I asked her why she said this is her ministry. The ministry of Encouragement
There is not a person you didn't meet that you didn't have a word of Encouragement. This you got from your mom,
In your last few months with us, I thank God that I was able to encourage you like you did for so many. In your moment of need and I could encourage your Faith in God and not to mention our many prayers of belief and hope. My greatest honour was to minister to your soul in person and [hone calls with the spirit of worship. Oh how you loved the songs that I sang with you, God inspired for the season. My fondest memory was your last week with us, when you drifted off into sleep while I was singing over you and you woke up and said "you are still singing". And you said you liked it so I kept on singing. That was the least I could do for you.
So one last time I will sing one of our favourites "The Blessings" The Lord Bless you and Keep you, make His Face shine upon you, be gracious to you. The Lord turn His face towards you and give you Peace. Amen, Amen, Amen.

Aunt Myrtle, I remember as a child I thought your name Myrtle was unusual. Later on I realized it was a name found in the bible. The week before you passed God put in my heart what is the real meaning of your name, so I had to do bit of research.
Myrtle from the Myrtus tree/plant/evergreen shrub. A fragrant blossoms.
Associated with the symbol of love, peace and victory
Isaiah 41:19 choice plant of the land
Isaiah 55:13 God's promised blessings
Nehemiah 8:15 Feast of the Tabernacle
Zechariah 1:8-11 The vision of an angel standing among the myrtle trees
Myrtle God called you by name before you were in your mother's womb He knew you and you lived up to your name. A life well lived.
One of your favourite songs says "I am a child of God"
You loved quoting your favourite scripture Isaiah 41:10
"So do not fear, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will uphold you with my Righteous Right Hand.
My song to you "Sleep in Heavenly Peace"

Aunt Myrtle I've never known my life without you. A 2nd mom.
You would show up for all occasions great and small. For all of my many family dinner parties (and there were many) you would show up and always wanted to bring your favourite garden salad, fruit tray or even ice cream. I had to tell you to just come and enjoy the blessings. but you still found away to add your blessing to the ocasions. You loved those times of having the family together. you were a champion of the family staying connected.
You were quiet and humble and loved working in the background until people got to meet you, they realized that you had a sound voice of reasoning and was a deep thinker and not shy if called upon to speak.
I never knew anyone loved to study or read as you did. Even to the end you told me you were reading a book. You loved education and never tired of it. You became even busier since retirement always at a meeting, a function, church, ministry always getting involved to give of your time and talent.
I can now see you enjoying time with your Lord and your mom, dad, husband and brother.
God's love. He will take care of you. You will rise when He calls your Name.

Aunty,
Always known for her gifts to others, no matter the occasion. She always had a word of acknowledgement, encouragement, or support for whatever I told her I wanted to do. She never let you leave her without a card, a token, or momento to take with you. Her last gift to me was a winter hat that she brought to Jamaica earlier this year. On it was a Canadian flag and a Jamaican flag that said “One Love”. She said, “Will you wear it”. I said “Of course”.
Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning..... until we meet again Aunty, One Love ❤️

My memories of Myrtle is that she was pleasant, quiet and a humble servant of God. Eventhough Myrtle was quite by nature, she was very observant and never missed a beat.
I have been blessed by the time I spent in her company socially and at church and was always amazed at her wealth of knowledge. She was always taking another course, pursuing a business opportunity or volunteering. Myrtle always encouaged us to pursuit learning and gave of her time generously.
Myrtle never fails to leave me with a scripture card or a book mark which would so encourage me and which I will now cherish.
We will miss your pleasant smiles and encouraging words.
