Shaina was very caring and I am very sad I knew my friend was fighting battles each day I check up on her and I made sure she was at least ok I wish I got a chance at least to hug her one last time or just get too see her at the hospital Just to let her say goodbye to me I’m so sad she didn’t. Get to say goodbye to me I’m very sad but one thing I learned from Shaina was no matter what battle your through each day I almost put a smile on the out side so that’s what I’m gonna do because she would not want to to be sad

I was shaina’s classmate for a year and I really enjoyed her presence and the joy she brought to our class. Although we didn’t have many conversations, the conversations that we had were joyful. She will be missed. My condolences go out to her family.

I had the chance to only get to know Shaina briefly, but her gentleness and hilarious sense of humor is what has made me smile when I think about her, her mother Hortense, and her sweet family. When Shaina first came to Emily's House hospice, she had all the spunk of a teenager with the maturity of someone much older. We bonded over our shared love of chocolate chip cookies. Shaina, my favourite memory of you was coming to check on you early in the morning during that night shift, only to have you wake up and ask if you could have (another) chocolate chip cookie, at the bright hour of 2 AM. I so clearly remember your mom's response of "SHANIA!" at your innocent request - and I remember the chocolate chip cookie that we snuck down to you (with your mom's permission). Sweet girl, what a privilege it was to have our paths cross. I will remember you for the rest of my days as a nurse, and will forever laugh at your kind but honest request for me to "come back when I've finished my cookie". Rest peacefully, and enjoy all the cookies that come your way. Hortense - sending lots of prayers and hugs your way. You are an incredible mother.
