My deepest sympathy. My prayers and thoughts are with you at this difficult time. I had the opportunity to teach Jellisa at St Paul School in grade five. She was a very special student and always brought a smile to everyone she would be with. We shared many magic moments together and she always visited me to share her success stories. I remember one day when she was visiting me and told me how she would love to work with students. I encouraged her to follow her dream which she did.
Again we celebrated her gifts and talents.
She touched so many lives in the short time she was with us.
I will always treasure those moments. May God keep you close and give you strength. Love Mrs K

I’m so sorry to hear of the loss of your daughter, Jelissa. I met her only a few times, as she worked at the daycare of my friend , Sheila’s little girl. When I first met Jelissa, I was in awe. Bright , beautifully vibrant young woman with a gift of working with children.
May she Rest In Peace.

I had the utmost privilege of meeting Jellisa when she transferred into the Child and Youth Care program at Macewan. When I first met her, she asked if "Mrs. Bertrand" was my mom. She chatted about school at St. FX (where my mom works) and clearly remembering my mom. When I asked my mom if she remembered Jellisa, she immediately did- promptly bringing up "the most beautiful smile" she had ever seen. My mom can be a tough cookie, and sometimes gives kids the gears for being kids, so if Jellisa thought highly of her, and if my mom thought the same of Jellisa, that was proof enough that Jellisa's character and spirit shone incredibly bright.
As I got to know her through school, I realized the impact of her luminosity. Her light gave to those around her, and her laughter and smile brought refuge to those who needed it. At the time, I needed it; and she never failed to add a beaming smile to my face- she had this way of knowing the words people needed to hear in that moment, regardless of the things she may have been faced with herself. Although my relationship with Jellisa was limited, I have learned and am learning a lot from her. I am learning about the incredible impact of connectedness, the power of goodness and kindness, and I am learning that we aren't owed anything by this world, and it is up to us to ensure that everyday we've made the world better by being in it. Jellisa most certainly made the world insurmountably better by being in it.
Friends and family- please don't hesitate to reach out if there is anything you might ever need. I know you don't know me, but I am here regardless.

Jackie and Ken. I am deeply saddened to hear of Jellisa's passing. I loved hearing about all of her triumphs and shared adventures from Jackie. Jackie, your face absolutely shone with pride and gratitude every time I saw and heard you speak of Jellisa. I only met her once, several years ago, but I remember her beautiful smile. I know how proud you are of her, as you should be. The world may have lost a light, but the universe has gained a beautiful, bright and shining star. May the love and memories you have of Jellisa bring you peace until you meet again.
All my love,
Alana

“Don’t break my egg” Jelissa recounted her mother saying many times throughout our years of knowing her. Jelissa, my love, you never broke, you just lived and loved.
Jelissa was my daughters daycare teacher and then private babysitter. I don’t remember a time that she didn’t Snapchat or send videos of my kids. She was enthralled by Alyssa and Colton. Jelissa was the kindest human I’ve ever met. My heart aches for her loveliness. I was excited to see how she would take this world by storm. I was excited to see q the change she would effect. I was equally excited to see her mother’s reaction when she fell madly in love and had babies of her own- how would Jelissa hold her eggs.
I’ve never met a young woman so loved by her mother. I’ve never met a woman who was sacrificed to such extent as her mother did for her. What I know, is that Jel knew. Jel knew she was her mother’s universe. I know Jel is hurting from above not because she’s gone but because I imagine her mom is breaking. Jel loved her more than that.
Jels mom, I don’t know you. You know of my family. You have made us jerk chicken. You allowed Jel to babysit and love my children. Thank you! We are better because you allowed and gave us her. You changed the world because you made her. Thank you.
Please accept my sympathy and hear my prayer you find peace. Jel was loved and she loved you. Thank for for giving us her.
So much love
Vanessa, Marc, Alyssa, and Colton

Jellisa worked with my son who has special needs. She had a real gift for working with kids, and she made such a difference in our lives. We’ll always remember her warmth, her caring way and her big, bright smile. We could always count on a smile and a hug no matter what kind of day she was having. I wish we could have had more time with her, but I feel truly blessed to have known her as long as we did.

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Aransevia,
My deepest and most heartfelt sympathies to you and your family. I was Jellisa's elementary school principal at St. Paul. Such a wonderful student - creative, caring, compassionate. She also came to work for my department with Edmonton Catholic Schools. She will always have a special place in my heart - such wonderful energy, love of her students, and such a kind soul.
