Obituary of Romie Alexander Meikle

Romie Alexander Meikle passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 17, 2024, at the age of 82 at St. Michael’s Hospital, where he was embraced by the loving arms of Jesus, his loving family, and friends in Heaven. Born on January 5, 1942, in Jamaica to Mercella and Ebenezer, he is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Mavis; his children and their families—Donovan, Albert, Monica, Paul (Karen)—as well as seven grandchildren: Ramone, Hadassah, Candice, Rebecca, Taryn, Isaiah, and Mia, along with two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by loving siblings, Peggy, Jennifer, Edgar, Melford, Charles, Hugh and Howard, in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of long-time friends.

Romie's vibrant spirit overflowed with life and love.  He was a constant blessing - tirelessly solving problems, repairing items and completing major and minor home renovation projects for family, friends, neighbours and anyone he saw who needed assistance.  Romie could fix nearly anything.  He truly enjoyed hard work - diligently labouring with his hands in a variety of professions ranging from manufacturing to construction. Those who worked with Romie were always inspired to work even more diligently. As an entrepreneur, he owned and operated his own restaurant, Hadassah's.

Romie also passionately believed that all people, regardless of their nationality or colour, should be productive, contributing citizens of this blessed nation of Canada.  He worked toward achieving this vision with various organizations.  A true people-person with a warm countenance, Romie could make anyone - family friends, even complete strangers - feel welcome, comfortable and valued.  He had a gift for hospitality and delighted in entertaining others. Romie was an avid sports fan, enjoying golf, football, and baseball. He also loved cooking, playing dominoes, games, and listening to music.

Loved and cherished by all, Romie will be missed beyond words and will forever hold a special place in our hearts.
