Obituary of Jessica Gwendolyn Dacosta

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Jessica Gwendolyn DaCosta of Lime Hall, St. Ann, Jamaica and Toronto, Canada on September 28, 2024, just 10 days after her 90th birthday. She passed away peacefully at Etobicoke General Hospital, Toronto, surrounded by her loved ones, following a brief illness. She was affectionately known by her many acquaintances and friends as ‘Miss Jess.’

She is predeceased by her husband Eric DaCosta, of Lime Hall, as well as all her siblings: Elsie, Daisy, Jephthah, Ruby, Leslene and Gloria.

Miss Jess worked at the St. Ann Parish Council for all her working years until her retirement. She was a faithful member of the Lime Hall Baptist Church, St. Ann, Jamaica as well as Faith Open Door Ministries, Toronto, Canada.

Her life was a beautiful expression of love and joy, and she will continue to inspire and warm the hearts of all who knew her. She was mother to Hugh DaCosta, Clive DaCosta, Jennifer Haye, Orville DaCosta (late), and Patrice DaCosta. She will be forever remembered by her children, and their families, grandchildren, great grandchildren as well as her many nieces, nephews, friends, and other relatives.

Her loving spirit, exuberance, and devotion to her family and friends will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.

Jessica’s generosity, beaming smile, and unwavering faith will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her legacy of love will continue to live on through her family and friends. Though we grieve her passing, we rejoice in the knowledge that she is now in the presence of the Lord. 

A final home-going service will take place in St. Ann, Jamaica.
