Obituary of Marsha Laurel Birkett
Marsha Laurel Birkett was born on May 9, 1964. She passed to her rest on August 1, 2022, after a two year illness. Marsha was an extraordinary mother, sister, daughter, aunt, cousin, friend and teacher. She was an active member of the Toronto West Seventh-day Adventist church.
Church was important to her. She held offices in church from the age of 14 right up to the end of her life. Marsha impacted every area of church life with her effervescent love for God and people and her creative and innovative means of ministry.
An excellent musician, Marsha played the clarinet and saxophone at churches and functions throughout the GTA. She also sang with choirs such as the illustrious Sound Idea—one of the most distinguished groups in the history of choral singing in Toronto.
Marsha was also an educator who taught in parochial schools in the US and Canada and in public school boards in Canada. Her energy, creativity, and passion endeared her to staff, students, and parents.
She was also an outstanding athlete at school and church. Moving like lightning on and off the track, Marsha was unstoppable and uncatchable.
As a mother, sister, daughter, aunt, cousin, and friend Marsha was loving, true and trustworthy. She was always ready and willing to listen and help whenever needed. Her magnetic personality and deep dimpled smile drew everyone to her.
Marsha was the loving mother of Rianna Birkett-Phillips; cherished daughter of Reynold Birkett and the late Velda Birkett; beloved sister of Ronnie Birkett (Rowena deceased); Karen Birkett Green (Xavier); Coleen Birkett and Greg Birkett (Nathifa).
She was the dear aunt of Richard Birkett (Danielle), Nalia Birkett and Isaiah Birkett and amazing cousin to the Roach, Clarke, Taylor, Blake, and Birkett families, stepmother to Elijah and Alyssa Phillips and a committed friend to many. She was the beloved “little sister” to Maria McClean (Wayne) and adopted aunt to Kamila McClean Samuel (Matthias). Marsha is asleep in Jesus, and we look forward to being caught up in the clouds with her when Jesus comes to take His children home.
I lieu of flowers, please donate to the scholarship fund for Marsha's daughter Rianna. This can be done by making an e-transfer to caapayment@caasda.com. In the message box state Tuition for Rianna Birkett-Phillips. Thank you from the family of Marsha Birkett.
