Dear Family of Desai Williams,
Desai will always be in our hearts.
Desai's memory beats on with strength, courage and endless love for others.
We loved him and he was a main player in the very talented and wonderful group of superstar athletes in the history of the world of track and field.
Rest in peace Desai.
His love and passion for life will not be forgotten.
Desai was one of my earliest hero's in sport.
To Desai's youngest young lady, daughter, Your dad was a lovely man, he was not just my friend but he was my late husband's friend. Charlie loved all of his athletes and Desai was no exception. Remember, it's not what happens to any of us in life, it's how we handle what happens. I think Desai made the most of his life and loved and lived well and he appreciated and gave back to many. Be kind to you and take care of you and I am so sorry for your loss and remember tears often help and eventually the tears fade when we aren't afraid to love. with love and peace and gratitude, The Angela Coon, The late Charlie Francis and James Francis family.

My name is Colleen. I just heard the news today of Desai passing. I had the privilege of meeting and working with Desai as Supervisor at Canada Post.
I can honestly say that he was a wonderful, kind man. Always was positive and really was passionate about connecting with employees. I talked to him last when he was at his new work depot and he reflected on how he missed working at the place he started at but was happy and excited of making it work at the new depot.
Desai always spoke highly of his family his kids. I really wish I knew about his athletic past I would have loved to hear his adventures.
He was a quality person and he will be remembered for that. My condolences to his family.

Here’s my short story. The last time I sat with Desai was in 1979 in the stands of the pool at Northview Heights. I was watching my beautiful wife of now 39 years play water polo. Desai had come back to visit us following his first year at Clemson. I remember him telling me that they wanted him to play football (but he was our Canadian Champion sprinter, soon to be world class so), smartly he declined.
Desai and I played football together on the ‘76 Nomads. I was a year younger. I remember when he broke his ankle on a reverse sweep and someone (I think McGuey, not sure) said to him “Des, you have to be faster”. We all had a chuckle. Gotta love teammates. Well, he must have taken it to heart because that broken ankle made him faster. In the spring of ‘77 the whole team showed up to cheer him on when he beat Spooner in the 200 (who went to our Jr High School, so we knew him and ... well let’s just say he was tougher to cheer for in Montreal ‘76). We really wanted Des to win even though we didn’t think he had a chance. Well at the end of the turn Des was ahead by 5 yards and we all lost our minds. We knew he was fast but wow. Thumping Spooner was quite a treat for all of us. That image is stuck in my head.
Desai did have a good heart. He was purely an everyday nice guy and team guy and for all of us who knew him back in those days we have nothing but pride in his many successes. Desai and I were friendly back then but not close friends. We were teammates in a small world in a short period of time in our lives. But he always had a smile, made time for us, made us feel important, and his presence made us all better people.
Condolences to you all. He will be remembered fondly by many.

The Desai laugh was such a rich, contagious and beautiful sound. His ambition, drive and sense of humour are only a few of the many wonderful traits that Desai possessed. Desai was a troubadour and his talents and love of life is a legacy he leaves behind. Desai you will be remembered with much love… may you rest peacefully. We knew Desai before he became a star sprinter for Canada. You see his brother Asquith was our Best Man at our wedding. and anyone who got to know either Asquith, Desai, Media, Heather or Dorian got to know the entire family. The Williams' are a close family, led by Emile and Ionie.
We spent many a joyful evening at the family home at Orton Park back then in the late 70's and early 80's. Life takes us on individual paths and we sometimes do not stay in regular contact with friends who become family. But that is what The Williams Family was to us. Friends who became Family.
Desai's big smile and excitable voice, and energy and enthusiasm was: obvious, remarkable and infectious. No wonder he became a sprinting star, and a life coach to so many.
Desai we are sorry that you are gone, and We thank you for what you have done.
To The Entire Williams Family, and in particular to Desai's Wife and Children, we send our deepest sympathy.
Rest in Peace Desai.
From Beverley and Dunstan Morgan and Family.

No doubt the first year of school with Desai at Northview Heights is indelibly etched , likely even the first meeting with his outrageously sparkling smile and eyes that seem to glisten with enthusiasm. A remarkably intelligent and talented man who left a resounding impression on so many of us who shared our youth with him. Probably everyone of us can remember the first time we saw him sprint across the field. It was spectacular. May reverie be rich and enduring for all his loved ones.

Your words of encouragement, not just for track and field, but in life. You understood how hard it was for me as a fresh immigrant to survive. You were always there. Thanks for the numerous Alouettes and Argos tickets you give me so I can take my then gf (now wife) on football dates. I can go on and on. Desai, I'll always remember that laugh. You always had a laugh and a joke that kept things light. We shared some great memories. It was always great handing off the baton and watching you "straighten out the corner" against the likes of Calvin Smith. I guess this is also a good time to say I'm sorry for breaking your Canadian Junior 200 meter record. You were very good teammate, gracious and a good sport as always about it. Can't believe you are gone. Journey well!
